Print and Other Media

It has been a long time since I bought a book or magazine.  I have a large collection and since online resources are so plentiful,  I did not feel like I needed to get any more resource materials.  It was also a problem with what was available, in design products especially.  All the new books for a while, were not that interesting, or were overly simplistic for my needs.   Recently I have noticed some new items out there and I may have give up some of my old collection and save up for a couple of new things.

This book “Decorate” looks lovely, I had a chance to see a copy at Anthropologie, and I have been a follower of Holly and Decor8 since the beginning.

I first read about Lotta Jansdotter in Selvedge Magazine several years ago.  She has many other books, some in Japanese, but I am always interested in studio spaces so “Open Spaces” looks intriguing.

And this last book is just me, texture, stitching, collage,  “Drawn to Stitch:  Line Drawing, and Mark Making in Textile Art.”

Unpacking Sorting Organizing

Since closing my retail shop so quickly, I have been storing many boxes of things.  It is almost like having another household.   Art supplies, fabric, furniture, new clothing, pottery and decorative objects,  plus display and office materials all fill two storage units as well as our garage.    So for the last few week the boys and I have been unpacking, sorting and labeling a hundreds of items and next weekend will be a huge yard sale.  It is hard to go through all this again, but it is finally time to put the past behind and start fresh.  My creative work has been moving forward, but all this clutter feels like I am still a little  stuck in the past.   May 20 and 21 is the sale date, if you live near and want to come or more information please email me.  A lot of great items for sale.  Will be posting some items online so check them out here  or contact me.

Studio Redesign

Since moving my studio back to my home, I have not been able to really set up my space.  I am currently in an upstairs room, that has been good until now, but thngs are changing and I am going to do something that may be a little “crazy.”  I would like to offer small workshops and creative visit at my studio and the current arrangement does not allow for much more than me sewing away on my own.

We live in a colonial two-story house, very typical for this area of Virgina, small rooms, traditional styling.   Of course, I have always wanted to live in a jusge open space building.  The first floor has two smallish rooms at the front, the parlor and the dining room.  We do not really use either of these spaces.  When we do have people over we are always in the family/kitchen area.  The boys are going to help me convert the downstairs into the studio and move the tv watching/hangout room to the second floor.  So now it is on to the planning and measuring and all.   It will be interesting to see how it comes out, where is your creative space?

The studio photo below is a beautiful space, it is so well thought out for space and a variety of uses.  More here form Sara Lechner.

Monday Moods

This journal will be going through some changes in the coming weeks.  A new looks for new ideas that are filling my head.  I want to showcase art and design from many places and styles.  But also bring some art and design techniques for a little behind the scenes of a working studio and gallery.  The space is finally coming together and now the focus can be on creating and working with other artisans. A little more fashion for personal style as well.
Monday will now be to set the mood or focus of the new week.
This inspiration board is from the flickr group by cursive design. The web site and blog are here.
This is my mood for the week.

Paris Artist

I have never been to Paris, but always wanted to go.  I guess it is my interest in fashion and architecture.  Whenever I find photos or images of the city it just seems so beautiful and inspiring.  I read about the artist Nathalie Lete in American Craft magazine, and found her web location with her wonderful art work plus great photos of her studio.  Take a look and enjoy.
