Print and Other Media

It has been a long time since I bought a book or magazine.  I have a large collection and since online resources are so plentiful,  I did not feel like I needed to get any more resource materials.  It was also a problem with what was available, in design products especially.  All the new books for a while, were not that interesting, or were overly simplistic for my needs.   Recently I have noticed some new items out there and I may have give up some of my old collection and save up for a couple of new things.

This book “Decorate” looks lovely, I had a chance to see a copy at Anthropologie, and I have been a follower of Holly and Decor8 since the beginning.

I first read about Lotta Jansdotter in Selvedge Magazine several years ago.  She has many other books, some in Japanese, but I am always interested in studio spaces so “Open Spaces” looks intriguing.

And this last book is just me, texture, stitching, collage,  “Drawn to Stitch:  Line Drawing, and Mark Making in Textile Art.”

Fabric Friday

The styles I have been looking at this week as started from the mood board, has lead me to many great artisans and designers. I notice a lot of fabric designers are in UK and Australia. We are going to do our part to create more printed fabric here at our studio. I am in love with this London designer, with fabric and wallpaper
Anne Dove.
The colors are so lovely, the photos and display ideas are also great.

Display and Design

In the process of creating new work, photographing pieces and moving my studio, I have come to look and the “Art” of display in everything. I do it in the Red Thread, and it is something I love. What I am finding now is that I really need to have things set up in certain ways for me to really relax and help in the creative process. So, as a part of this, I will be starting a new feature on my new blog (coming soon) that will be dedicated to display of all kinds, in shops, on line, at home and studios. I would love to hear from anyone who is passionate about this as I am. Let me see those collections.
This is a corner of my old house.

I have a mix of styles, due to inherited furniture items and thrift shop finds. This is a little traditional for me, but interesting.

Bits and Pieces

It was a little crazy here last week, but it all ended in a great opening party for our photography show.  Probably the best opening for a show so far.  I was great fun and the artist work was really appreciated and he seemed to really enjoy himself.

Now I am back to my own work, and I am so glad.  I always seem to find the most creativity when I have the least time to spend on that part of this business.

In the process of studio reorgainzation I have found so many things and so much fabric, I am going to have a sale of my fabrics and yarns in the shop.  I have hand dyes and commercial prints.  Since my sons are older and I no longer work in childrens clothing, I think it is time to free up some space and get rid of some the cute prints I have collected.  I will be grouping in color and styles and I hope they will be great for some of the other great designer/crafters out there.  I just hate for things to go to waste.

In the mean time I have been making trims with all my small scraps, to add to the new summer handbags.  Maybe I will even have some scrap bags for all those collage artist out there.

Here is small sample of the bits that seem to be taking over the studio.

Next week I hope to have some looks at the new studio and some ideas I have used for storage and display.
